About John
John’s flying career began in 1965 and he has accumulated over 22,000 hours. He has flown with more than 25 airlines worldwide. He flew with Northwest Airlines for 25 years and was a flight instructor involved in the development of the airline’s AQP Program.
He moved to Airbus and held management positions in Flight Operations and Training, in addition to serving as the manufacturer’s representative to The LOSA Collaborative. After retiring from Airbus, he led the large group analyzing data for the EBT project. He was the lead author of the Data Report for Evidence-based Training, published by IATA in 2013.
John has made an immense contribution to the development of EBT. He was able to engage with many organizations worldwide to get access to their data.
This in itself was no small achievement, and his decision about the structure of the analysis worked. John assembled a diverse team with expertise in pilot training, flight data analysis, risk, LOSA, and statistics.
Many of his team contributed as volunteers giving their time and energy into laborious analyses. In turn, this also involved John and his small leadership team in hundreds of hours of work to continually refine the process and then provide the results in a meaningful way.
Without his commitment energy and steadfastness, I can truly say there would have been no EBT. He remains committed and it is a real honor and privilege to work with him.
